To Be or Not To Be

My apologies for the extra drama today (I know some of you may not realize that I have a dramatic flair), but this is just driving me crazy. For those of us who are depending on the media to tell us what to look like, please make up your mind! You finally have acknowledged the grave situation of dangerously thin celebrities and the eminent danger to all of society in your reports disguised as public service announcements! But lately the talk of Mariah Carey by radio personalities and TV entertainment hosts has turned into a competition between who can most tactfully suggest that “huh-hum, she isn’t at her thinnest, now is she?” What the hell do you want? Finally, here is a woman, a real woman, a voluptuous woman, that is the answer to all of your ranting about the toothpicks with heads. And yet you must snidely insinuate that she is overweight. This is the answer to your question of why the toothpicks with heads are so thin. They sure don’t want to be represented on your show as growing into their new found fame!
Note to those in need of a disclaimer - Obviously I’m being sarcastic about depending on the media to tell me how to look.

Right on! The media always sends mixed messages.. Just one more reason not to follow. Or try not to..
That makes me think of the old "Dirty Laundry" song by Don Henley:
I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry
Anything to sell. Happy news and making viewers feel good about themselves apparently isn't controversial enough.
And on a different note - you can move your eyes independently?! That's talent :)
I have noticed this as well. Especially with the younger girls (like Lohan and Duff). They criticize them for being too thin but when they start to pick up a little weight they jump right to the attack.
Thanks Pinky - That's my party trick! haha
I've really enjoyed your blog Christi. I think it shows amazing creativity when you are able to personify and objectify the way you are feeling through such powerful photography. Keep up the great work! I wonder what's next for you in ATEC...Hmmm :)

It's not "the media" though is it? Put it this way...I don't know jack squat about Mariah's weight. But I'm willing to bet that the R & B, Hip Hop, and Latino/a radio stations (to the degree they cover her) give a damn about her weight. In fact, if they did it would go the OTHER way.
NO one I know wants a skinny Mariah, a skinny Beyonce, even a skinny Monica.
I found your blog on Flickr. Very impressive... but if you really think this way about your weight and being a real woman (I agree with you by the way, I think you look gorgeous), then why are you continuing to try to lose weight?
Sorry for my bad English, it's not my mother's tongue.
Perhaps I hide the weight well because even the doctor wants me to lose 20 more pounds.
Actually if I were at my ideal weight, I would still be heavy according to Hollywood. So I'm not trying to be celebrity thin.
Believe me, when I was thin, I never had bones sticking out anywhere!!
I do appreciate these questions because although this is my personal battle with my own body image, it helps me to question the origin of these thoughts.
Christi, I just came to your blog from Diet Blog and wanted to congratulate you on the posts. The media ideal is getting crazier by the moment. Tyra Banks is being called fat now. Where is it gonna end?
i so agree with you on the mariah carey comment...i almost cold clocked these two skinny b*tches on the subway the other day talking about how mariah carey got "fat". honestly, these people have to be f-ing kidding. she looks good, she's talented, she's successful, & hopefully she's happy & healthy...because that is the stuff that matters. this constant thing about weight is tired-- "you're too skinny", "you're not skinny enough" thing we do every day(and it isn't JUST the media--EVERYONE DOES IT) is too much for me to take! mariah carey looks good who cares about her weight as long as she is healthy!
