Diet Flogging

I surveyed family and friends again, asking what they thought about the word "diet." I found it interesting that the responses were almost as negative as those for the word "fat." You would think that we would be a bit more positive about the very thing that would help alleviate the negative situation in which we find ourselves.
Except for one or two words, the responses reflect a feeling of punishment. I too fall into this trap, accepting a self-inflicted flogging to keep from eating that chocolate.
Well - today I revolt. I will not see my diet as a result of my failure. I will instead embrace my resolve with pride.
Remind me to tell myself that tomorrow.

Your friends and family relate "death" to "diet"?
Wow. Harsh people.
The word diet is very emotionally charged. "Our diet" used to be merely the way we ate: "The chimpanzee lives on a diet of fruit and grains." Now we have these negative conotations because we have made diet a word about a temporary state of punishment for our alleged crime of lack of self-control.
Instead of making diet about punishment and depravation, why not just think about it as a way of life?
Yeah Christi, I think we all need to be reminded.
Another thought-provoking blog. I predict you'll get a lot of interesting feed-back on this one.

Diet = failure, punishment, rigidity, and deprivation.
"Food Plan" = a guideline of the healthiest choices to make when selecting things to eat.
That's why I won't diet, but I do have a food plan :)
Your blog is amazing and inspirational. You're incredibly talented.
It's interesting for me to see the impact these images have on you all. Sometimes I'm so close to them that I'm a little surprised when they speak to someone else so much.
Anne - I never even thought about the fact that the word die is in diet. But there it is, staring us right in the face.
Thanks everyone for your positive reviews. ;-)
this is an interesting 'experiment'. I like your post-it threads. :)
