You Are What You Eat

It's easy to become obsessed with counting calories, adding up fat grams, and computing body mass index (did I say that right?). I for one have never been able to muster up enough energy to do that. BUT I do tend to read labels. I'm more interested in what that morsel about to pass my lips consists of than how many calories it has. Just a different strategy.

I recently decided to take a look at the ingredient list of a snack whose marketing strategy focuses on the fact that it is baked and not fried. Healthy???

Hi. I am also in the process of getting skinny. Initially, I weighed in at 242 lbs. now the scale reads 205 lbs.

My approach has consisted of
- Counting calories
- Not eating after 7 PM.
- Water. 2 - 4 liters a day.
- 50/50 soy milk and veggie juice. 1 Liter a day (morning).
- Veggies.
- A lot less meat.
- Walking 2 hours twice a week.
- Cycling 40 minutes 2 or 3 times a week.
- And resistance exercise: For gals For guys

The weight loss and exercise have given me more energy, curbed my appetite - with the added side effect of spending less for lunch, shopping for preference instead of size, and much more stamina *nudge..nudge" You know what I mean?

*NOTE* Two or three times a month, you will end up in front of the fridge with a spoon in your hand and a bowl full of ice cream. Go ahead and enjoy it. Treat yourself once every two or three weeks.

I won't tell.

It is indeed rather scary when you look at the ingredients lists of processed foods. I try to only pick things that have very basic ingredients. Yogurt with only milk cultures, as just one example.

But this reminds me of watching "The Sweetest Thing" this weekend, and the one guy was eating fat free chips. So his brother said he'd better watch for anal leakage. And the other guy didn't believe it, but it was one of those Olestra products. He said something to the effect of, "I can't believe their marketing strategy includes anal leakage!"

So it would seem that people in general will eat anything that gets touted as healthy? At least that's the way it's pushed on us.

i followed a link to this blog when i saw this picture randomly somewhere on line. i like your body centered photographs in particular and I was wondering what camera, in particular, that you use.

i also wanted to say that as a recovered bulimic...finally making peace with her body, it's a shame to see another beautiful girl cuffed to the heteronormality standards of beautiful. Girl, you are so beautiful, I hope through your art you make peace with your body as I am making peace thru my art over my body.....my art is at http://photobucket.com/albums/y263/jesstellsastory/Art%20Therapy/ in case you care to look.

beautiful photos girl.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

The camera is a Canon Digital Rebel XT (otherwise known as 350D)

I'm still getting used to it, but so far it's pretty good. I'm quite the perfectionist, and digital doesn't quite measure up to film. But I got tired of scanning negs and cleaning them up in PhotoShop.

I think that is in the camera sucks. I bought a new flash and have found that the images turn out a lot better. I've had this one for about 4 months. I love digital but it has been an adjustment switching from 35mm.

Awesome picture! I think it's a good strategy to just think about what you are putting in your mouth before it crosses your lips. The rest will follow.

I want a rebel!

I really love your photoshop work with your photography. Excellent.

I also find that a lot of marketed "healthy" foods or alternatives to not-so healthy things (diet soda, etc.) aren't so healthy once you take a closer look... It can be decieving.

Actually this isn't PhotoShop. I cut out the label from the box and projected it onto my skin. I wouldn't have the patience to do that by hand!
