Room to Grow

Room to Grow
I have this love/hate relationship with all things comfort. Elastic is the best thing to come along since sliced bread, or muffin tops, or even cream cheese and jam already mixed in the tub. But let’s face it. Comfortable pants = room to grow. And comfort food? Well I’ve never felt completely satisfied and ready to face the world again after eating comfort food. I don’t know about you, but for me a bowl of rice pudding or a gallon of chocolate ice cream only reveals a new use for praying to the porcelain god.

I think that comfort is nothing more than complacency hiding behind an illusion. This Fall will be the one year anniversary of this blog. I know I’m a bit early, but I’ve been reflecting lately that I’ve started to come into my own this past year, and it wasn’t because I settled into a niche. I was forced outside of my comfort zone by one genius of a professor.

That illusion kicked me in the ass today when I realized that I am comfortable here now. This has become my niche. I’m not done here… not by a long shot. But these comfortable pants are giving me room to grow. Who knows what’s next? In the meantime, the dark chocolate Godiva ice cream is calling me from the freezer!!! ;-)

If you think elastic waistbands in pants are great, try them in full skirts! One reason I sew is so I can make skirts with nice deep pockets and very comfortable elastic waists.

Today I'm wearing a skirt without elastic, something I couldn't fit into for months. I'm glad it fits, but I still prefer the elastic.
